Dodgers eliminate rival Giants in 4

8/1-8/2 - LA Memorial Coliseum
GAME 1 - Dodgers 8, Giants 2
Frank_Howard_63 LA dropped a 3 spot on Mike McCormick and the Jints in the opening inning.  Don Drysdale fought through some early troubles that cost him 2 runs by the 3rd inning.  Big D righted the ship and fanned 8 Giants including Cepeda and McCovey twice each.  Frank "Hondo" Howard blasted 3 homers and knocked in 4 as the Dodgers won easily.

GAME 2 - Dodgers 4, Giants 2
San Fran staked Sad Sam Jones to a 2-0 lead off of Johnny Podres.  LA finally got onDuke_Snider_LAD the board with a solo run in the 7th.  Both Jones and Podres left early thanks to a 38 minute rain delay.  Someone forgot to tell mother nature that it never rains in Southern California.  LA attacked Giants' reliever Stu Miller for 3 runs in the bottom of the 8th.  Maury Wills led off with a single and easily stole 2nd and advanced to third on a Wally Moon single.  Norm Larker grounded into a DP, but Wills was able to score the tying run.  Frank Howard singled and the "Duke of Flatbush", Duke Snider became the Duke of SoCal for this one day as he turned the clock back and clobbered 2 homers.  Snider’s 2 run shot in the 8th would provide the go ahead runs that reliever Larry Sherry would protect in a 9th inning that got a bit interesting.

8/3-8/4 - Candlestick Park
GAME 3 - Giants 4, Dodgers 0

jack_sanford_autograph With their backs up against the wall the Jints staved off elimination on the heels of a Jack Sanford 3 hit complete game shutout.  Sanford struck out 6 Dodgers in this tidy clutch performance.  Stan Williams spotted the Giants 3 runs in the 3rd by allowing 3 hits after a passed ball moved the runners into scoring position.  The Giants added 2 insurance runs in the 8th off of Larry Sherry who was also victimized by 2 John Roseboro passed balls and 2 singles.

GAME 4 - Dodgers 5, Giants 2
A young and wild Sandy Koufax spotted the Giants 2 runs in the first and looked to be onJoe_Pignatano_LAD the ropes.  Willie Mays tripled home Felipe Alou with 1 out.  Orlando Cepeda launched a deep fly to dead center, which Don Demeter tracked down thus allowing the "Say Hey Kid" to score easily.  Lefty Bill O'Dell lost focused then lost his lead in the top of the 4th.  Norm Larker tripled home Demeter and Frank Howard slammed an RBI double to tie it.  After Tommy Davis struck out a wild pitch moved Howard to second and an error by Blasingame on a slow grounder by Junior Gilliam accounted for the 3rd run.  LA added 2 insurance runs in the 7th when "Piggy", Joe Pignatano, led off with a pinch hit single.  Piggy moved to second on a Maury Wills ground out, then scored on Demeter's third consecutive single.  Larker followed with a clean single of his own, then scored on Howards hump backed liner to center.  Ed Roebuck, Roger Craig and Larry Sherry combined to shut the Giants out over the course of the next 3 innings to hand Koufax the win as the Dodgers eliminated the Giants 3 games to 1.
